A Sample of Job Sampling
Do you remember your first job, or internship, or even apprenticeship? It likely helped shape your vision
and preference of what you wanted to do for work in the future. Job sampling is an important step
when deciding what you want to do for a career. That’s why we always help our program participants
to experience a variety of jobs to find what works best for them. This is particularly important when
you have a disability. You never really know what you can and cannot do until you try, so it’s important
to get out and test your skills. The photos you see here show examples of when our career exploration
coordinators took our program participants out in the community to experience a select few community-
based jobs.
Great things happen when the community comes together...
We were given an opportunity to work on site with local service providers such as Elijah’s Promise,
Kiddie Keep Well Camp in New Brunswick, and Bethel A.M.E in Millville. All of our participants were
able to work on their employment goals and objectives to ensure that they have an opportunity to
reach their fullest potential. The career exploration coordinators taught several different transferable
skill sets when out in each location ranging from customer service to hospitality as well as shipping
and receiving.
Thanks to these organizations that opened their doors to us, our participants were able to not only
sample potential jobs but also pick up some valuable new skills!
Enjoy viewing a few of the moments we were able to capture in these photos. We hope to have more
to come in the near future!
