The Next Generation of Changemakers:

An Internship Thank You

Dear Easterseals HR team,

My time here is complete, or at least
for this internship. It was really nice
to be able to work with all of you. As
this is my first internship, I started here
slightly nervous and a bit confused
on how I was supposed to just hit the
ground running. But everyone in the

department has been so nice and
friendly to me. I suppose that is rare in
the corporate world, I wouldn't know.
What I do know is that the moments
where one of you would stop your work for a bit to assist me in understanding what
I'm supposed to do and the moments where you included me as part of the team
with casual chatter and inclusion onto full-fledged projects were very impactful to
me. I really felt like my time here was worthwhile and effectively educational.
I appreciated when my work felt like it had impact and that my work affected

other projects in the future. I made me really feel like I was part of the team, and
not like that generic intern stigma that college students fear.

My personal mission with HR is to do it with more humanity in it, to be a human and
not a function of the business strategy (even though that is what it is.) By being here
at Easterseals, I think I've gotten a pretty good example of a type of HR that's fresh
and progressive, where we interact with consumers, co-workers, and employees
fairly and with friendliness. Even when we have to discuss serious topics like
terminations or conflicts, I've gotten the chance to see how to handle those topics
with grace and warmth. I will continue to take this sort of care in HR further. And
when it comes to the busy work, or the work that's more tedious, I've recognized its

importance. Nothing I've done here was for naught, everything was with purpose.

It's been an honor to work with all of you these last few months. I hope there may
be more interactions in the future, and if not I hope the best for all of you. Happy
holidays and have a great New Year! Thank you all.
