DP Releases his First LP
"...DP has recorded two more songs and shows no signs of stopping."
I first became aware of DP’s singing talent during the latest Monmouth County Community Living Services’
(CLS) holiday party. DP is sociable and friendly, but always seemed a little anxious and had a nervous
energy. That’s why I was surprised to learn that he had a penchant for singing. Turns out, that nervous
energy was just waiting to be channeled into musical performance. DP’s most recent performance of
The Beach Boys’ Surfin’ Safari was a hit and one of the highlights of our holiday party. Having a musical
background myself, I thought it would be fun to engage with DP in his musical pursuits and use our mutual
musical interest as a way of connecting. I find connections like these can be useful when helping the
individual manage their mental health, which is why DP came to us.
In order to deepen this connection and engage DP further, I offered him the opportunity to record some
of his music stylings. He leaped at the opportunity and immediately offered ideas for songs he wanted
to record. Utilizing some recording equipment that I had used in my “garage band” days, we recorded
Surfin’ Safari and the Dave Clarke Five’s, for DP’s first LP (limited-pressing). Easterseals New Jersey staff
were incredible proud of him and his talent. He was so excited and proud of his achievement that, he
showcased his recordings to his housemates and family.
Since then, DP has recorded two more songs and shows no signs of stopping. Eventually, DP would like to
purchase his own computer and microphone so he can start posting videos of his singing performances
on musical community web sites like SingSnap.
Ladies and gentlemen, get your autographs now, because this man is going places.
