Can You Smell What Sayerville is Cooking?

There is nothing quite like the sweet smell of fresh pastries to warm your soul and excite
your taste buds. Thanks to Andrea O’Brien, an Easterseals direct support professional,
the Sayreville day program was awash with that same mouth-watering scent. Andrea is a
talented pastry chef and took the time to lend her skills to create a fun and educational baking
opportunity for our program participants. Andrea and her participants, along with the help of
her colleague Lisa Dowling made delicious homemade pizzelles. Andrea brought in all the
necessary ingredients and baking tools so everyone could participate in the activity. As a
group, participants cracked eggs, measured flour, and sifted powdered sugar. The outcome
may not have been great for everyone’s waistline, but it sure was great for the soul. There’s a
long tradition of family and friends passing down recipes and teaching others the secrets to
baking the perfect sweet treat. Having access to opportunities such as this is what our day
habilitation programs are all about. We are so thankful to our staff for making this possible
and for making a difference in the lives of our participants.
