More Than Just Jobs

When striving to obtain employment, it is imperative to have all facets of your daily
life in order. We recognize that all of our basic needs must be met before we can
move on to pursue new opportunities.

Recently, we found some of our participants were lacking access to stable housing.
It’s hard to focus on your work when you’re worried about your home, so we decided
to do something an employment service doesn’t normally do… we called the housing
authorities. Our Career Exploration Coordinator, La Rae Smith, wanted to see what
could be done to help our participants find stable housing. As a result, connections
were made, papers were signed, and now two of our participants are moving into new
homes while three others are awaiting housing assignments.

As you can see from the smiling faces in our photos, our participants are thankful
and excited to enter this new chapter of their lives. By taking a wholistic approach,
our programs are able to help an individual with more than what is expected of them.
Going above and beyond is a common occurrence when it comes to Easterseals
employees, but this was an incredible example what a remarkable impact it makes in
the lives of those we serve.
