                                   John Starts Over

After spending years working on his mental health in a psychiatric hospital, John was prepared to
make his way in the world. He was looking forward to experiencing life and becoming a part of his
community once again. Luckily, he was paired with an Easterseals case manager to help him with his
transition back into independent living. He worked with his case manager to establish goals and lay
out a plan to achieve them.

One of John’s goals was to graduate from his involuntary compliance commitment program. To do
so, he needed to stay on track with all his medications, pass all the mental health screenings, and
have his progress approved by a multitude of state screeners. John says, “It was a hard journey, but
with help and determination I was able to graduate from my compliance program and am looking
forward to the future.” Since then, John has been doing great. With the help of staff he was able to
get a job and maintain his housing. After being in the Easterseals program for only a year and three
months, he now has the opportunity to serve as a peer support staff for others going through the
same program he had. He now helps his peers to see the same kinds of success he has seen through
the program. Thank you for all your hard work and success, John!
